General anesthetics are usually administered through inhalation or with an injection in your child’s hand or arm. Occasionally, a long-lasting local anesthetic is also injected during this process, so that when your child’s procedure is complete, he or she will wake up feeling numb, giving you the chance to help your child remain comfortable.
